Second Orbit Studio is a small, Calgary-based glass and mixed-media studio created by Métis artist Kathryn Cooper. I make original fused-glass artwork inspired by wildlife, prairie skies, mountain landscapes and the quiet moments found in the natural world.

The name Second Orbit reflects the idea that creativity does not always follow a straight path. Sometimes we circle back to something that has always been part of us, bringing new experience, curiosity and perspective with us.

Each piece begins with an idea and is built by hand through cutting, painting and layering glass before it is transformed in the kiln. Texture, small variations and the movement of light through the finished glass are all part of what makes each piece unique.

My work includes one-of-a-kind glass art, smaller giftable pieces and custom commissions. Every piece is made in my Calgary studio and includes a display stand, ready to find its place in someone else’s story.
