Gathering Light is a one-of-a-kind fused-glass artwork inspired by honeycomb, warm light and the quiet work of bees.
Individual amber, golden-yellow and clear glass cells form an organic honeycomb around a hand-painted bee. Raised translucent wings and small textural details give the piece dimension, allowing the light to move through it differently throughout the day.
Handmade in Calgary, Alberta, this original piece celebrates the colour, texture and natural variation that make glass so captivating.

Because this piece is handmade, small bubbles, textures and natural variations in the glass are part of its character. Colours may appear slightly different depending on the light and surroundings.
Where the Wild Meets the Water captures a solitary moose at the edge of a mountain lake, surrounded by autumn colour, evergreens and distant peaks.
Glass paint and colourful frit create the landscape’s fine details and raised texture, while the clear glass allows its surroundings and changing light to become part of the scene.
Each Second Orbit Studio glass postcard is cut, painted, assembled and kiln-fired by hand in Calgary, Alberta.

A Second Orbit
Second Orbit Studio grew from a return to making things by hand and the discovery that glass can change completely depending on how the light finds it.
I work with fused glass, glass paint, frit, texture and mixed media, often allowing broken edges, layered colour and unexpected imperfections to become part of the finished piece.
Inspired by landscapes, wildlife, memory and the Canadian West, each piece is made slowly in my Calgary studio.
